Key Notes from the reading & sermon:
When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When Jesus had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
We may be experiencing many emotions in this time of global pandemic. God is with us and loves us no matter what our emotions may be. Jesus offers us peace and sends us the Holy Spirit. We can live with fear and peace because we are saved by the faith of Jesus who frees us to share the love of Christ in word and deed.
Questions for Reflection:
How does it feel to know that God loves us and meets us where we are no matter what our emotions are?
Sometimes our emotions can immobilize us or tempt us to react in unloving ways. How can we allow the faith of Jesus to empower us to share his love through times fear and peace?
What can we do this week to open ourselves to the peace Jesus offers?
As we spend time in prayer, in ways do we hear God guiding us to share the love of Jesus in this time of crisis?
When we take time to reflect on how God is growing us and changing us in this period of deep suffering for so many and much uncertainty for all, how will that help us share Jesus’ love with others in the days to come?
